What is the BioMAR<\/span>athon<\/h1>\n

The BioMARathon is an international citizen science event<\/strong> promoted by the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC), designed to monitor marine and coastal biodiversity<\/strong> on a global scale integrating different local events. Is a friendly competition<\/strong> between participants to record the maximum number of observations. In addition, competing between different regions within the same territory to maximise the achievement of this goal.<\/p>\n

The first BioMARathon emerged in Catalonia in 2021<\/strong>, it was successfully replicated in northern Portugal in 2024. The BioMARathon model can be replicable in any coastal regions of the world<\/strong>, always following the provided guidelines.<\/p>\n

A key objective of the BioMARathon is to promote citizen participation in science. Through the collaboration of hundreds of volunteers, we can obtain large volumes of valuable data to understand and preserve our marine and coastal ecosystems.<\/p>\n

We use advanced methods and technologies to collect data with MINKA and include them in global biodiversity databases.<\/p>\n

The BioMARathon is a citizen science event led by the EMBIMOS research group from the Institut de Ci\u00e8ncies del Mar (Institute of Marine Sciences, ICM-CSIC). It encourages the use of the MINKA platform and is funded by the European projects MINKE, ANERIS, ECS and GUARDEN.<\/p>\n

EXPERIENCE CITIZEN SCIENCEWhat is the BioMARathonThe BioMARathon is an international citizen science event promoted by the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC), designed to monitor marine and coastal biodiversity on a global scale integrating different local events. In addition, competing between different regions within the same territory to maximise the achievement of this goal. The first BioMARathon emerged in Catalonia in 2021, it was successfully replicated in northern Portugal in 2024. The BioMARathon model can be replicable in any coastal regions of the world, always following the provided guidelines.Actively collaborate in scientific researchA key objective of the BioMARathon is to promote citizen participation in science.
