How to participate in the BioMARatona
From the first Saturday of May to October 15 2025, take part in the BioMARatona and help collect essential scientific data for the knowledge and conservation of marine ecosystems in North Portugal.

How to use the MINKA platform
Access to MINKA

- Download the application on Play Store or App Store
Create an account or log in
Check and compare your observations with those of other participants
- Upload your geo-referenced photographs
- Add information about the species you have found
Can you help us to identify species?
If you are an expert in species identification, help us verify the fauna and flora observations that our community uploads to MINKA!
Your contribution will enable the BioMARathon databases to attain the Research Degree, thus guaranteeing their usefulness for scientific purposes and territorial and biodiversity management.

Requirements
- Be over 18 or create an account under adult supervision.
- Have an account on the MINKA platform.
- Publish a minimum of 10 observations of marine or coastal species carried out on the Portuguese coast.
- Observations must be from different agencies and made between May 3 and October 15, 2025.
- Late observations can be submitted until October 31st, but all must be photographs taken during the defined period (this information is included in the photographs’ metadata).
- Observations must be published on the MINKA citizen science platform and have reached “Research Grade” (explained below).
Exclusions
- People employed by or linked to the institutions organizing or collaborating with BioMARatona.
