LIVE CITIZEN SCIENCE
BioMARatona North Portugal
BioMARatona is a citizen science event in which the general public, at an individual level or through groups or associations, is invited to contribute to science with biodiversity observations.
However, it is also an adventure for the whole family!
During the BioMARatona, the CoastalWarming group of scientists/researchers organizes activities open to everyone in which we guide the public through coastal biodiversity in northern Portugal. Become a scientist for a few hours and come find and identify different living beings in the rocks of the intertidal zone and contribute to a citizen science project.
Led by scientists from CIBIO-InBio/BIOPOLIS, in Vairão, the BioMarathon will take place from May 3 (first weekend of May) to October 15.

Aims
Catalog and map the marine and coastal biodiversity of mainland Portugal.
Increase knowledge of species in marine and coastal ecosystems in mainland Portugal, as well as their geographic and temporal distribution patterns.
Increase public participation in the study of marine and coastal biodiversity.
BioMARató 2025 will be
from 5 May to 15 October

Team
BioMARatona is promoted by the COASTALWARMING research group of CIBIO-InBio/BIOPOLIS (Research Center for Biodiversity and Genetic Resources).
The COASTALWARMING group studies the relationship between climate and biodiversity, with a focus on coastal habitats and biological communities.
We are also committed to communicating and disseminating the results of our scientific research in order to support measures for the conservation and protection of biodiversity.
